It's
Coyote Mating Season

There is known coyote
activity here in the forest
and surrounding grounds.

Coyote breeding typically peaks in late February and early March.

Then the gestation period for pups averages 58 to 63 days.

Always leash your dog when visiting the forest, parks, and other natural areas nearby.

A coyote mated pair display courtship behavior and become protective toward one another, particularly during the height of the season.

Though they will not use a den until a litter is born, coyotes begin to select new dens and monitor them closely as pup season nears.

While we should celebrate any coyote sighting from a safe distance, it is critical to exercise caution.

We are all stewards of these urban wild spaces, let us ensure that we keep coyotes wild and pets safe.

If you happen to be lucky enough to see a pair of coyotes at a comfortable distance, give them their space and leave the area.

If a coyote comes too close, it is important to keep their natural fear of humans intact by "hazing" it: shout in a loud, firm voice and wave your arms.

Do not investigate or allow your dog to explore a coyote’s space, especially during this time of protectiveness.

See you in Pup Season!
